For those nights when pizza sounds oh-so-good (need a recipe?), opening a $40 bottle of wine doesn’t always seem to be the best fit for a casual evening at home. However, grabbing a really tasty wine from the grocery store after picking up a pizza (yes, you can even order a 30” pizza to go) can be really appealing. How about pairing your pepperoni with an $8- $12 grocery store bottle of a blend of Cabernet, Zinfandel and Merlot?
TasteFresno member, Luke Mundy, also known as @lukemundy on Twitter, shares his review on the 2008 Ménage á Trois from the Wine Tweetup, suggesting that the blend pairs well with a basic pasta or pizza. To be completely honest, pizza and Diet Coke are my personal favorite combination, but Luke has inspired me to find a go-to wine for the next time I order in. Phew. I'm glad I got that off my chest!
What are your go-to wines for pizza? Have you tried the Ménage á Trois? Do you agree with Luke's review?
I wonder--are there any white wines that pair well with pizza? I'm starting to think about the hot summer days coming up, when people tend to reach for more whites, but I'm not sure about white wines and pizza (I mean, for a really good pairing). Or, perhaps I should skip the wine and go beer all the way? When eating pizza with a group of gals sitting and chatting around the table, a red blend like the Ménage á Trois would be my first choice. If I’m with a mixed crowd watching the game (or in my case, guarding my favorite appetizers by the food table while others watch the game), that calls more for beer or soda. However, the next time I order pizza, I'm going to get a bottle of Luke's choice (also available at BevMo).
p.s. Luke and his wife Sarah brought some delicious stuffed mushrooms to the tweetup, so check back soon for the recipe! The two of them can often be found browsing the local farmers markets or coming up with interesting ways to celebrate the holidays (read about their new Easter Tradition).

At least review something not sold at Costco by the quadruple pack.
