In a medium mixing bowl, add all ingredients and mix well (until the brown sugar is fully incorporated). Next, coat a trimmed tri-tip completely and set covered in the fridge for at least two hours before grilling. For best results, put the tri-tip and the marinade in a gallon-sized double-zipper plastic bag and set in the fridge overnight.
When grilling the tri-tip, be sure to use some of the marinade to “baste” during cooking and be sure to season with salt & pepper.
