Who Makes the Best Margarita in Town?

That sweet yet sour, salty and tart burst of citrus flavor every time I have a margarita has won my taste buds over and makes me wish today was Margarita Monday.

Wait, who needs a certain day of the week to enjoy a bit of alcohol and citrus!?

Although there is so much more to Mexican cuisine (see this blog or read this book) than tacos, enchiladas, and mmm...guacamole, my guess is that Cinco de Mayo next week will bring out a ton of tacos, and of course, margaritas.

So, who makes the best margarita in town?

My vote is Plaza Ventana - the one on Blackstone and Shaw.

I believe the recipe for the original (order it on the rocks) is this:

  • 4 jiggers Sweet and Sour Mix
  • 1 jigger Tequila
  • 1 jigger Triple Sec
  • 1 jigger Gran Marnier

Shake, then serve on the rocks with a salted rimmed glass.

Note: That's from memory, but I'll give it a try and make adjustments if necessary!

Watch the video below for another take on the recipe, and please share where else we can direct people for margaritas - any day of the week!

i think WAY more research is in order. you can't say one's the best 'til you've tried 'em all. let's get started!

I gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of margaritas because of how sweet they always are (and I prefer micheladas with my Mexican meals), but when I was in Mexico over Christmas, I had a delicious one (or two...). We stayed at a place called Casa Werma, and Eve and Kris get all they credit. Their recipe is equal parts tequila, fresh lime juice, and Cointreau. Tangy with not too much sweet! Served to preference, but I like them on ice with a salted rim.

That's an intriguing perspective. Any plans to re-visit this topic in future?

I wish I could try it!  Unfortunately I'm here in Dallas! (I'm right by the home of the frozen margarita fyi).  I'll have to plan a trip sometime.  Thanks for the tip!
