wine tweetup
Earlier this month, I hosted a group of Fresno Twitter friends for a real-life gathering of wine tasting, also known as a wine tweetup. Although I eventually plan on bringing in thoughts from wine experts to teach the TasteFresno community (and me) the history, complexities and intricacies of various wines, I wanted to bring in friends and everyday consumers to share their opinions first.
Too often when we taste wine and food, we feel we have to like something because an expert tells us that we should. Although I know it's true that the more you learn how to recognize different smells, tastes, and appearances, your opinion and appreciation for what’s put in front of you changes, at the end of the day, it still comes down to whether or not you enjoy what you’re tasting.
For the next few weeks, tweeps (yes, that's a word) from the wine tweetup will be sipping various wines and telling you what they they think of the “nose” (smell) and “palette” (taste), and offering their personal food pairing recommendations and overall impressions of the wines on video. They were asked to speak to the TasteFresno community as if they were talking to friends, and you’ll notice that the reviews are light and fun. After all, we had a great time coming together with some really good food, as well!
Altogether, we tasted 10-12 varietals. All wines range in price from $6 to $25 and come from around the world (including Madera, Calif.).
In this first video, Chad Davis sips and shares about the Razor’s Edge Shiraz, available at BevMo for $8.99. Feel free to leave a comment below if you’ve tried this shiraz or plan to in the future. For more details on the actual tweetup, TasteFresno member Natali Carrera does a great job describing it on her blog.
If you couldn't make it to the tweetup, but you like wine and want to join the discussion, leave your thoughts below. This is definitely something we'll be doing again!

Nice work, I like the concept and the approach. Good luck with the series of tastings, they sound like a lot of fun. Finding the $15 bottle that tastes like $100 is the goal of most wine drinkers.

Great review and recommendation Chad. I'll definitely pick one up next time I'm at BevMo. I'm a big fan of tasty wines under $10.
