At the time, I was obsessed--OBSESSED--with hoppy, super-bitter IPAs, and I blew out my tastebuds after the first week and a half. I didn't drink another beer until February.

This time last year I set out on a noble quest to taste 31 new beers in 31 days. I called my journey Decembeer.

Starting today (you know, December 1), I'm revisiting Decembeer, and will spend the month exploring this glorious fermentation. I'll update this post with a log of what I'm drinking (see below), but I'll also explore the local breweries and talk with a few home brewers.

Journey along, and let me know what you're drinking!

2011 Beer Journal

To be clear, I am no expert when it comes to beer; I am, however, an enthusiast. Lets try to break this down in a way we can all understand:

12/10 Tied House Menage a Singe Black IPA 8.0% Hoppy, but balanced with a clean finish 5 Anytime
12/9 Harviestoun's Old Engine Oil Black Ale 6.0% Dark as night; rich, "vicscous," and delicious. Good head. 5 Dessert; now
12/8 Ass Kisser Double IPA 7.75% Strong but paletable hops. I'll take another, please. 5 Dinner
12/7 New Belgium's Snow Day Winter Ale 6.2% Dark ale; not a lot of depth, and light for a black ale 3 Holiday party
12/6 Anderson Valley Brother David Triple 10.0% Thick, almost syrupy, a bit heavy (in texture and alcohol) 4 Before a light dinner
12/5 Young's Double Chocolate Stout 5.2% Smooth, creamy, and yes, chocolaty. Delicious. 5 Dessert; breakfast
12/4 Abita Save Our Shore Pilsner 7.0% Lighter, refreshing (I don't normally drink pilsners, but this was good) 4 Afternoon; anytime
