Tri-Tip Competition!

I've been waiting patiently for some one *cough**cough* to start a blog on the goings on with the Tri-Tip Competition.
So I'm listening to The Pulse on KFSR with the interview with James Collier, you might know the guy. And as soon as I here the host, sorry I can't recall your name, mention Fresno having a food of it's own my first thought is the Giant Taco from Fresno to Tulare Streets along the Fulton Mall. This is a food stunt I'm dreaming up to kind of bring some attention to downtown Fresno. The host and James both mention Tri-Tip as being Fresno-centric food. And they are totally right, no one from outside of the valley knows what the Tri-Tip is really.
So I tweet it to @jamescollier. A challenge, BBQ a BBQ who's got the best Tri-Tipbequeing skills. Since that time several people have joined in the fun of the challenge and an honest to goodness competition has started.

The blog post about that cookoff is coming, the host is Tim Stearns (and Lee Lockhart), and there's an official sign up form for the cookoff (whether cooking, tasting or judging).

I'm gonna keep it simple with a dry rub, medium/rare tri-tip cooked over an open flame. Oh so good.

Hmmm, this is gonna be good then. I'll be smokin mine, no it will not require giant zigzags, and from now till judgment day I'll be test smokin till I have what I want. In it to win it baby.
Date and location I'll leave for James to disclose officially. But, semi officially we've got the first sunday of May in a parking lot downtown nearly dialed in.

that's cinco de mayo - any way to avoid that day, when we're all supposed to be at the festival on the mall?

Kendall, thanks for reminding me about Cinco de Mayo. We definitely don't want to compete with that. And yes, we're looking at YN as an option.
That said, we've hit a bit of a snag that I have to work through. We either have to make this a private event, and therefore an "unofficial" competition, or we have to get the health department (and others) involved. I promise to get an email out to the group this week with details and a request for input.
On an interesting note, we seem to have more "judges" signing up - seems a lot of people want the authority!

I just want veggie representation!! Vegetarians love Fresno and love to eat too!
Fresno has as much fruit and veggies as they do beef and dairy!

@oneheavenlyheart I'll grill up some veggies too. Whatever is fresh from my garden or the farmers' market. So make sure to come by my grill.
