Meet Nora Byers and her two kids, Robert and Sofia. They were spotted earlier this week at Vineyard Farmer’s Market (Blackstone & Shaw, open 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. every Wednesday).
Nora is from the Bay Area, so she was already in the habit of shopping at markets when she and her family moved to Sanger. They now have two acres and are just gearing up for a summer of gardening.
Robert, age 11, was holding a jaunty little tomato seeding and Sofia, age 9, was already nibbling through the skin of a white peach. “She loves peaches and nectarines,” said Nora. “We try to eat to eat healthy all the time. My kids say that our house is boring because our cupboards are full of healthy stuff.”
In their bag were a couple of pints of fresh squeezed orange juice, mandarins, peaches, asparagus, zucchini, and tomatoes. And just what do they have planned with this bounty? “We are going to try some grilled asparagus. We tried them the other day at a restaurant and they were so delicious. My husband usually steams them, but we are going to try and grill them.”
What's in your bag?
