Basil Lemonade

Basil lemonade is refreshingly delicious and a great alternate to adding mint to your lemonade. Making the basil simple syrup really is simple, and can be used in other drinks to add a special Italian flair. You can opt to use regular water with this recipe, but it tastes so much better with sparkling water. Depending on the tartness of your lemons, I'd recommend keeping a little extra sparkling water & simple syrup on hand so you can taste as you go. Enjoy!

Ingredients

For Lemonade:

  • 2 cups lemon juice, about 12 to 15 lemons
  • 2 cups Basil Simple Syrup (ingredients below)
  • 2 cups sparkling water
  • Ice
  • Lemon twists, for garnish

For Basil Simple Syrup:

  • 1 bunch fresh basil, washed and stemmed
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

Basil Simple Syrup:

In a saucepan combine basil, sugar, and water and simmer until the sugar is dissolved, 5 minutes. Cool, strain the simple syrup, and store in the refrigerator.

Basil Lemonade:

Mix lemon juice, Basil Simple Syrup, and water together in a pitcher. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Pour over ice filled glasses and garnish with a lemon twist.
