Spiced & Spiked Apple Cider

Cider is a holiday staple, and spiked drinks always spice up the party (pun intended). This recipe is simple, but an easy hit for holiday gatherings.

I'm not much of a cider person, but I wanted to try this for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner party. I couldn't believe the reaction—it was a hit!

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon apple cider (I used SaveMart's Sunnyside brand)
  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks
  • 20 cloves
  • Zest from 2 lemons
  • 2 cups dark rum (or to taste)

Instructions

Bring cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves and lemon zest to a boil in a large saucepan; simmer for 5-10 minutes. Remove cinnamon and set aside; strain cider into a large Crockpot and return cinnamon to mixture. Stir in rum and set the temperature to low. The cider seems to get better as it sits.

It's really that easy, and the smell is wonderful.

This sounds like a winner to me! I really like cider in the winter, something about it makes me think "christmas". And with the addition of the Rum I'll be thinking "fun christmas". Nice!
