I'm not sure where this recipe comes from, but I found it written on the back of an "Appointment for Examination" from the U.S. Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, circa 1976.
Toast bread, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes; blend into crumbs. Add powdered sugar, cinnamon and allspice and whirl briefly. Pour mix into a 9" pie pan. Add butter and combine well. Press mixture evenly against bottom and sides of pan.
In blender, whirl eggs, cream cheese, bitters and lemon juice. Add lemon peel and 3/4 cup sugar, whirl briefly and pour into pie shell.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes, or until set. mix sour cream, 2 Tbsp. sugar and vanilla; spoon evenly over filling and bake 10 minutes longer.
