Harvest Delight Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups unsifted flour
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 lb. (20) large marshmallows
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 cup soft shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup walnut halves

Instructions

Sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, baking powder and spices. Add shortening, eggs and applesauce. Beat until smooth and well-blended. Stir in walnuts; pour into greased and floured 13x9x2-inch pan. Press whole marshmallows into batter, to the bottom of the pan in four rows (five in each row). Bake at 350° for about 50 minutes.
