Strope Waffle

If you have the iron, these are amazing. If you have the opportunity to go to a Dutch Bakery and they have these, buy them. They are the perfect combination of cookie and carmel and incredibly soft.

Ingredients

  • BATTER
  • 5 cups flour (sift, then measure)
  • 1/2 lb butter (soft)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • SYRUP
  • 3/4 lb butter
  • 1 lb brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark Karo syrup
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

BATTER: Combine ingredients in bowl. Mix with hands until able to form into balls. Form loosely into approximately 1" balls. Place in center of hot waffle iron and put coals for 30-40 seconds. Open and hit on hard surface, so waffle splits. (If not, sloce with sharp knife.) Keep flat.

SYRUP: Combine ingredients in saucepan. Heat until butter melts. Spread between warm waffle halves.

Makes 30 waffle cookies
