Sift flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt on wax paper. Beat eggs and buttermilk in bowl. Add dry ingredients; beat until smooth. Stir in oil. To form a teddy bear, use ¼ cup batter for body, 2 tbsp for head and 1 tsp for each ear, arm, leg. Pour batter, in this order, onto lightly greased medium-hot griddle to form overlapping circles in the shape of bear.
Cook until edges begin to brown and bubbles appear on top. Carefully turn whole bear over. Cook until other side is golden.
Transfer to serving plate and keep warm. Repeat to make 7 more bears. Decorate with raisins for eyes and nose, if you wish. Serve with maple syrup.
