Hero's Sports Lounge & Pizza Company

What's it like?

Hero's Sports LoungeI'm not downtown's biggest fan (that's probably this guy, or this guy), but I'm definitely in favor of revitalization. And while I've been critical of some efforts, I've heard good things from the soft opening of Hero's and was excited to take a look at tonight's FLYP mixer.

I was impressed by early photos of the bar, but pleasantly surprised that the restaurant extends into a second floor. FLYP seemed to have a great turnout (I'm not sure what to compare it to), but there was plenty of room upstairs.

It's a sports barUnfortunately, we showed up as the food was running out, but Kim snagged a piece of pizza before it all disappeared. We stood around for half an hour or so talking to the blogfather, but without a sign of more free grub, so we headed out to Creative Fresno's Blender.

As we walked out the door, another couple passed on the sidewalk and asked if it was worth it. After answering affirmatively, Kim expressed quite enthusiastically that she wanted to come back another night for dinner.

I've tried to like this place, but they make it hard. It's a fun atmosphere but every time I've been there (several times now) the service has been terrible. Long waits for drinks / refills, at a birthday gathering (for me) they brought out all of my parties food except mine. I had to ask three different staff if my dinner was ever coming. It finally did, 30 minutes after all my guests had got theirs, and we had to leave for an event. Haven't been back since.
