Wassabi

Reviewed by KimCollier on Jun 07, 2009

What's it like?

James and I ventured out to the north side of town last night for our weekly date night. Yes, we have date nights. It was between going to a Thai restaurant we love or trying out a new place for sushi. Wassabi won. I will say it was not what I expected. Walking in you are greeted with a long shout - however it is not until others enter the restaurant that you actually find out what they are saying "Waaaasssaaaabbb." A play on "wus up" is my guess. The decor was bright and cheerful and one of the sushi chefs had on these funky glasses. The waitstaff was extremely attentive - I dont think my water glass was allowed to go below a half inch of the rim. The edemame was fantastic! It had a perfect blend of salt and firmness that was just yummy.

We shared two rolls - the climax and the boody boody <---I think that is what it was called. Both were great and very filling. The other patrons were a good mix of dressed-up teenagers, a family, and my all time favorite sweatshirt and comfy pants. Its a place you could feel comfortable in no matter what you wore. The music was a little loud at first, but it grows on you and I found myself doing a little shimmy in my chair.

All in all I would highly recommend Wassabi. In fact, you buy and I'll join you there.

I suppose I should have warned you - I read all of the reviews I could find to make sure it was worth going to, and many noted the noise, so I knew what to expect.

All in all, it was a great experience, and I look forward to trying more of the rolls. I hear "smells like my ex" is good.

I love this place! It is my favorite sushi place in Fresno. It has a really fun atmosphere and equally fun names for the rolls. ;)

I'm excited that they are opening a new location in Fig Garden Village (where Pangea used to be). Looks like it is going to be huge!

I know several people are still wondering if they're taking over the entire space, but it certainly looks that way. We *should* be within a few weeks of the opening, too, which I'm excited for.
