austin's

What's it like?

Austin's for lunch today. It was a late lunch, no one else really in there, but the service was flawless. Ate at the bar, the bartender took good care of me even though I only drank water. The hamburger was a little dry for my taste, not the medium rare I asked for, but the quality of the meat was good, and had a decent  flavor.  The garlic fries tasted really, really good, but they were over-drenched in oil. They served a weird potato chip, russian dressing kind of thing along with it, which was definitely original and didn't taste half bad.

You should've tried the pizza. It's way better than the burger. And the potato chips with their unique dressing are amazing. It's a true gem in downtown and more people should know about it.

On a second try to Austin's for lunch, this time at lunchtime, the potato chip CHIPOTLE (missed it before) dressing is growing on me a bit. On Anon's advice, I tried the pizza. I realize my pizza standards are pretty high, but other than the range of toppings, I would not recommend this pizza. There was just no distinctive or delicious flavor about it. It did take a while to arrive, but I wasn't in a hurry, so no real complaint there. (On a side note, I was there another time before the thirsty thursday grizzlies game and it was packed with good people and had a Tamarack drink special. I really don't want to see another decent bar Downtown go south.)
