Trelio

Reviewed by Chukknob on Mar 03, 2010

What's it like?

Got a reservation for Friday night and went with my brother and sister in-law.  This  wasn't the typical reservation when you show up and still wait an hour.  We were seated immediately.  Now, my brother had been bragging about Trelio for several weeks leading up to this and I had heard great things so my expectations were pretty high.

Well....they didn't disappoint.

We didn't order a wine because our party brought a bottle purchased at Trelio's last wine tasting.  Thanks brother.  On to the food.

Appetizer: Crab cake.  Awesome.  This was loaded with crab and hardly any filler.  Perfectly crusted on the outside with an awesome Jalapeno Remulade (at least I think thats what the sauce was).

Soup: Potato Leek.  Very very tasty.  Prepared nice with perfect texture and flavor.  The ingredients were obviously prepped correctly (no dirt in the leeks). ha.

Main Course:  Had to get the buffalo short ribs.  I mean where else am I going to get those in Fresno.  Let me tell you where- nowhere.  At least not this good.  Fall of the bone doesn't really do these justice.  If there is such a thing as more tender than fall of the bone this is the proper description.  I think I need to invent the saying if it doesn't exist.  Maybe melted off the bone or something like that.  After the meal when Chris explained the cooking technique I understood how they got that way.  60 hours cooking time.  Are you serious?  I have pairs of underwear that have worn out faster than that.

The sauce was very well balanced and seasoned.  The short ribs came with sweet potato puree which was good but not great.  They would have been great but I didn't care for the lime.  I understand this is preference but they were just too sour for me.

My wife order the pork chop.  Had one bite and the leftovers a few days later.  They looked like Wilma had prepared the chop for Fred Flintstone.  Double cut.  Oh yeah.  Well worth the money.

Dessert was cheesecake and bread pudding.  I hear Cracked Pepper has an awesome bread pudding but Trelio's was nothing to be ashamed of.  It went faster than the cheesecake.

Well I gotta run but I would definitely recommend Trelio to everyone.  You might not like letting go of a benjamin for a meal, but treat yourself or just go in for lunch.  You will no regret it.  Also, the service is great and the atmosphere is very bay area like.  Nice crown molding, colors, etc.

4.5 Stars.

I totally agree with your review of Trelio. Hands down we get the best service and food there. Chris always knows the exact right wine to go with your food and Mike is a superb chef. I think we'll make a reservation soon!
