Deol Cuisines

What's it like?

Deol Cuisines looks more like a market than an actual restaurant. Located in a large complex behind Casa Corona on Herndon and Ceder, Doel Cuisines has a large selection of Bollywood movies, indian spices, packaged foods, and a large display case filled with Indian deserts. A large menu is displayed behind the cash register, which contains a wonderful assortment of mainly vegetarian options. Normally, a few orange tables are available to sit at and dine in, but on our visit, the place was being cleared out for the floor cleaning crew.

The menu has everything you would find at a traditional Indian Restaurant such as Saag Paneer, Samosa's, Naan, and Daal. We decided to order a variation of the samosa's that contained a nice tomato and garbanzo bean salsa on top- Samosa Chaat ($2.99). Wow! The flavors were all blended together very well and the slight sweetness of the chutney (mango ?) complimented the curried seasoned potatoes and garbanzo beans.

In addition to the Samosa Chaat, we ordered a Daal combination plate. The daal was excellent. The perfectly seasoned lentils had just enough kick from the curry to keep your taste buds salivating. The daal was accompanied by a healthy amount of rice and a small salad topping and Naan, all for a very moderately priced $4.99.

And what better than to wash all this down with a mango lassi. Yes, a mango lassi with actual mango for $1.99.

The food rivaled some of the best traditional Indian places in town like Mehek Punjab, but with a slight toned down approach perhaps resembling what you might find as traditional Indian street food.
