Wasabi

What's it like?

When I saw Wasabi was opening a location in the Fig Garden shopping center I was very happy.  It's a quick 2 minute walk from work, so some co-workers and I dropped in for lunch yesterday.  Walking in the door your greeted by the entire staff yelling "WASABI!!!!!" which is the norm if you've ever been to their Herndon & First location.  The resteraunt is nicely decorated, and there is plenty of seating, as well as a large sushi bar.   The reason for the 3 star on Ambiance is they do play very loud music, usually rap or something else I have a hard time listening to.  It does make for a fun enviornment, but if the music isn't your taste it can make it hard to have a conversation with your party.

We all ordered the $10 lunch special which gives you your choice of 2 items (I had tuna sashimi, and spicy tuna roll), salad, sticky white rice, and a drink.  Not a bad value.  Again, the reason for the three star on value is only due to the prices of their rolls.  Wasabi has some amazing sushi rolls, but they are pretty pricey.  The tuna sashimi that came with the lunch special was amazing.  It had a good color, texture, and the flavor was perfect.  I did find it odd that they forgot the Wasabi....I mean, the restaurant's name is Wasabi....but anyways....after brining out the wasabi I really enjoyed the sashimi.  The spicy tuna roll was alright, it wasn't spicy enough for me (I'm no masochist, but a little more heat would have been nice), but the flavor was good.  The white rice was topped with sesame seeds which added a nice flavor to an otherwise regular sticky white rice, and the salad had a nice dressing on it.

The service was great, we never had an empty glass, and they were quick to bring out anything we needed.
