My boss and I had several items to discuss, so we set a lunch meeting. Since that meeting happened to fall on my birthday, he took me off-campus to Long Island; we were tempted by thoughts of Sunnyside Deli, but the lunch line can be out the door, and it doesn't provide for private conversation.
My experiences at Long Island have been hit-and-miss, though it's convenient spot for an after-work beer with my co-workers. We were seated right away (the dining room was mostly empty), and greeted by an attentive server.
We both ordered the salmon salad, which was okay. The salmon was well-seasoned (which I like), though judging by the texture it was either not cooked properly (I actually prefer salmon medium to medium-well), or not fresh. If you try the salad--or any salad for that matter--I do recommend the champagne vinaigrette.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Long Island isn't my favorite place, but it's one of only a few options in Sunnyside. I think from here on I'll stick with land-based protein.

I've never had an entree at Long Island but a couple of weeks ago did enjoy some starters. I think we had coconut shrimp, the steak pizza and calimari. It's the second time in the last year I've enjoyed the starters. Maybe that's the key?
