Naked Fish

Naked Fish

Reviewed by jamescollier on Jul 28, 2011

What's it like?

I can't say I wasn't warned. My friend Felix told me that Naked Fish had reopened, and she described the signs around the room.

"Please, no photos or texting of menu or foods [sic]."

"Do not put sugar in soup."

"Free wifi."

There were others that I wanted to remember—including the snapshots of the restaurant's "most wanted" (dine-and-dashers) next to the cash register, but I wasn't sure what would happen if I held up my phone to take a picture. One thing was certain: I'd be caught on camera myself. I counted at four video cameras pointing into the dining room—etter mind my own business and concentrate on the TV in my booth (seriously, that was a first for me at a local restaurant).

It was all so...distracting. I found it hard to concentrate on what was easily a 12-page menu, and Kim and I both felt a little overwhelmed. We decided on a sushi roll to start, and she ordered dumpling soup while I had shrimp phad thai for dinner.

The sushi was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The phad thai, on the other hand, was quite tasty, and was beautifully presented. Kim also raved about the dumplings; the broth had great flavor, with just enough salt.

Service was friendly, and fast, which makes me think this would be a good lunch spot. We'll definitely have to go back to try more of the menu!

Definitely sounds interesting. I think we'll test out the Pho and Bahn Mi.

Since this visit I've heard the pho is the best in town. Definitely worth testing that claim.

Naked Fish reopened over a year ago. For me, this is definitely not a dinner destination. The cameras/TV...etc. are definitely different, but unfortunately it's been necessary for them. Also unfortunate is the vast menu. I thought I was at the Cheesecake Factory. Wish they tamed it down and perfected those dishes.

One item I enjoy is the BBQ Pork Sandwich. They serve this on a nice roll crispy on the outside and soft inside. Plenty of chopped pork stuffed with cucumbers, jalepenos, cilantro...etc. This is not only filling but really enjoyable.

As James stated, the sushi is okay at best. I have had Udon Noodle soup, but was not impressed. The broth was watered down and just lacked imagination. Same for their Pho. Something was just missing. Interesting that they ask not to put sugar in the soup. Some people do add it to their Pho.

Definite stop for lunch. Not expensive and they bring out the food in good timely matter.

When I saw they had re opened... I has pleased. After a visit; not so much.

The first time Naked Fish opened up the street it was great. Loved their udon noodles, sunomono salad; so different from any other in town....

Why they sold out to their wait staff who then failed, I wondered why. Guess they were just tired of trying to beat off the dine & dashers to eak out a living.

Naked Fish originally sold out because they wanted to focus on serving Pho at another location. That didn't work out so hot for them and customers were calling on them for sushi.

Well they returned, but nobody really noticed. They do have some nice dishes, but when you see their menu, it may seem a little too much.

Hey James, Glad you checked it out. The Pho is what I first started coming for. I order the number one with a side of Korean bbq ribs. pretty yummy. I also like the Korean rice bowls. Very fresh tasting. the few times I've had the sushi, I let the owner decide and was very happy with the results. I actually like that the menu is so broad, because if I take my boyfriend there are lots of less adventurous options. I also enjoyed the mango smoothie! Yum!

That mango smoothie looked incredible (I watched it being delivered to the next table and started drooling)!

The broth for Kim's soup was incredible, and others are saying the pho is the best in town, so we'll definitely be back to try it!
