Delicious guacamole

Zamora Taqueria y Pupuseria

What's it like?

Zamora has been popular here on TasteFresno (see here, here and here), but it took an invitation for free lunch to finally get me there. Side note: thanks to Floyd of Antilabs for celebrating my mayorship (no, not that mayorship).

The location isn't glamorous, nor is the interior decor, though I've eaten in worse. But the owners are friendly, and there menu is fairly expansive. I opted for three tacos: two asada and one carnitas.

Okay, the short of it: the tacos were just okay. Forgettable even. But not the guacamole--damn it was tasty! I have never had guacamole that good. EVER. And it came with homemade chips, cooked to order.

What I learned after lunch is that 1) Zamora offers homemade tortillas, and 2) they specialize in Salvadorian cuisine, with which I'm not familiar. So while I wasn't overwhelmed, I think those two facts warrant another trip.

i haven't tried the mexican food, but the salvadorian papusas (zucchini one), fried plantains and the sera negra (the plantain and yucca filled burrito, not on the menu) are really good! because the papusas are made to order and handmade by the two ladies, the wait can be kind of long. it is more convenient to call and place order, because it takes about 20 minutes to prepare. as you noticed, the items i listed above are vegetarian, which are good options usually hard to find in mexican restaurants.
