Thaiphoon

What's it like?

Two of us had dinner for the first time at Typhoon last Friday night. It wasn't a good experience, except for our waiter, who was friendly and accomodating.

We ordered Tom Kha, Chicken Curry Panang, and a veggie/tofu Pad Thai.

The soup had decent flavoring, but it appeared watered down compared to other places I've eaten - as if they were stretching the last serving into two servings.

The chicken curry panang was awful. I'm not sure I even saw any chicken in it, and the vegetables were horribly undercooked. The potato slices were so raw that it was impossible to cut them into bite size with a metal fork. I mean literally impossible.

On a positive note - the Pad Thai was decent and well done. Not the best I've had - but decent.

When we mentioned to the waiter about the consistency of the soup and the raw veggies, he immediately offered to discount the meal. That was a nice thing to do. They ended up not charging us for our two ice teas, though, telling us that that was the equivalent of 15%-20% of the bill. It was actually about 12%, but I was at least glad they tried.

I'm not sure if I'll go back there - there wasn't any excuse for the kitchen failure: the place was uncrowded and we weren't in any hurry.

Another minor point: the tables have a thick plastic cover over a white table cloth, and at most tables, it hangs down to ankle level. For me - it didn't look good. Add to that the fact that the covers were sticky against bare legs (we were in shorts)and you understand the low score for ambiance.

I tried that place when it first opened - I think Creative Fresno held a Blender there. It seemed decent then, but I've heard it's gone down hill since. Your experience certainly doesn't encourage me to go back...
I'm hoping those where Thai teas that totaled 12%?
