My family has enjoyed dinning at La Costenita Mexican Restaurant for years, but in the past year I have noticed a few changes. At some point last year they started charging extra for a second bowl of chips and salsa. That's lame but not a big deal. Then the food quality seemed to drop a bit. Their steak quesadillas seemed bland and tough. Tonight we decided to go to the Selma Sal's location which was packed as usual. After a long day, I didn't feel like waiting in line so we decided to give La Costenita a shot. The parking lot was almost empty when we arrived which should have been a clue to what would follow.
The food was OK but the service was pretty lousy. I requested napkins and silverware several times before finally receiving them. I had to request a refill multiple times before finally getting it right before we were ready to leave. In fairness to the waitress, she was the only one working the tables, so I don't fault her. I fault the manager who is so short staffed on a Saturday night. We were ready to head out but our waitress never brought us our check so I finally just went to the cashier. The cashier was on the phone for about 3 minutes as a line formed behind me. Honestly, I don't know what happened to La Costenita but I miss the restaurant it used to be. I'll give you another shot but not in the near future. This was strike two.
