Come and Get It Chicken and Waffles is the best fried chicken you've ever had. Period.
I had never experienced the combination of chicken and waffles before, and was curious about how it would work. Needless to say, no matter how you eat these two foods, they are a great combination. The seasoning is perfect in the fried chicken and I always add in some Crystal hot sauce provided on each table for a perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The waffles are delicious, and solid representation of the popular breakfast food.
Every time I've returned to Come and Get It, I've brought someone that has never before eaten there. No one has ever been disappointed.

I TOTALLY agree. I'm glad Luke shared this with me a while back.

I've introduced several people to Come & Get It, but with mixed results - while the food is always good, I've had to wait as much as an hour to get it, and have been underwhelmed a couple of times with the service.
Still, I love the location, and the novelty of "chicken and waffles." The waffles are just okay to me, but the chicken is worth the trip - I haven't had fried chicken that good in years!

James, I agree, the service can often be quite slow, but I've always found the service to be very friendly, and they make you feel like you're coming over to their house for a Sunday dinner.

We'll have to give it a shot. We became fans of C&W when we lived in Oakland. Lots of choices there ranging from really good to meh. House of C&W was the best, plus they served grits and fried chicken livers.

Hey Tari, Is that the one in Jack London Square? I saw it last time I was in the area for work.
Tari Pie | Tue, 2010-11-30 13:47
Yes! It is the same one. One of our favorite places. You must try it next time you are over there.

I might just have to do that :D

I have learned to call my order in advance because its soo much food at one time!. It is some of the best chicken ive ever had,and waffles of course. They do have good customer service. Me and my family literally have been going there since they've opened, and havent had any complaints at all.

I heard something terrible yesterday that I truly hope isn't true. I was told by tbe Fresno Groupon rep who was in town yesterday that Come & Get It had a Groupon offer lined up that they just pulled the plug on it and told the Groupon rep they didn't feel comfortable doing the Groupon because it was looking like they would have to close within 6 weeks. I really hope that was their polite way if dismissing Groupon but Nancy has never struck me ad the type to lie about something like that.
It's a great late night hangout with good food. I do feel it has taken far to long to get the food out at times. More than anything, I just reay hope we dont lose them.

Hmm, I'll have to go in this weekend and ask if there's any truth to it. They did stop serving lunch on Wednesdays - yesterday was the last day. But they've insisted online that they're still open.
At any rate, I'm glad that they're not signing on with Groupon. As much as I love getting a good deal, I can't imagine that being economically sound for a restaurant that already gives such generous portions.
alisamanjarrez | Fri, 2010-12-03 13:08
I think I should check it out this weekend, too. For good measure, you know :-)
Tari Pie | Fri, 2010-12-03 13:21
I'm glad they didn't go the Groupon way. I've heard it can really hurt small businesses. Batter Up! and Peidmonte's Deli had problems with it. It's a great way to get noticed but is financially a bad idea.
Hopefully, with enough comments and posts all over the web, we can keep Come and Get It going.
bfalke | Fri, 2010-12-03 13:29
I think it really depends on the business. And your approach. I think you have to think of it as marketing dollars. It's hard for me to believe it hurt Piemontes that badly since they have not done it once but twice so far. There is no doubt that it is more difficult for a restaurant but I don't think it has been bad for all of them.
Tari Pie | Fri, 2010-12-03 13:34
No, it probably hasn't been difficult for all of them. But I have heard that it can hurt smaller ones - particularly if they use a small groupon such as Batter Up! did. Peidmonte's actually had more of a problem with people using the same groupon twice, so that was a problem with dishonesty versus the actual groupon. It is true that it is good marketing. I may have not tried Batter Up! otherwise. But good word of mouth works well, too. It didn't take a coupon of any sort to get me into Trelio or Come and Get It.
bfalke | Fri, 2010-12-03 13:48
What do you mean by a "small" Groupon? It is true that people can be dishonest, but at Storyland & Playland we cross them off as soon as they are redeemed so we know if it has been used before. Frankly, any business that does not do that is somewhat foolish in my opinion.
I agree, there are some restaurants that either can't afford to do Groupon or don't need it. However, I also know there are a lot of restaurants out there that most people in town have not heard of. I would include Trelio & Come & Get it on that list. A restaurant like Trelio though simply can't sell their product at 75% off and make it because their food costs are just to high. The only way that could even possibly work for them is to do one where maybe for $15 you got a $30 certificate so that you are only giving a 75% discount on the first $30 dollars. Anyone who has been to Trelio knows you are hard pressed to not walk out of there spending less than $100.
Tari Pie | Fri, 2010-12-03 14:13
The "small" groupon I'm referring to is the $10 or so. It is my understanding that from a certain amount down, the Groupon company gets all of the money. No money, only marketing for the business. The business gets the customer, but if they order only enough to cover the groupon, then they make no money whatsoever. Again, it does fall to the business to make sure they get a deal with the groupon. My point is the small companies who can't afford it usually are the companies who could use the marketing.
Regarding, Trelio - Ask Chris his opinion. He posted (a few months back) a good article about the groupon, living social, etc phenomenon. He also has some good points about the benefits and downfalls about them.
bfalke | Fri, 2010-12-03 15:53
I don't think that information is correct. We did a $5 Groupon and you get half.
Tari Pie | Fri, 2010-12-03 19:39
I honestly can't remember who gave me that info - whether it was from that article or someone told me that. But, I sincerely hope that I was misinformed and it isn't correct. That information is one of the reasons I'm reluctant to use groupon.

This is the article that Chris had posted on FB.
And where I saw this quote "Then we talked the percentage split. John told me that when the consumer pays less than $10, Groupon usually takes 100% of the money."

I'm truly hoping they remain open and that I learn to check my own spelling someday. :-)

Went there after the Wicked show. Got there at 1130pm and finally walked out at 110am!! I heard alot about this place and wanted to support the bizz but waiting almost 2 hrs is totally unacceptable...we walked out....totally unacceptable...
alisamanjarrez | Mon, 2011-04-11 11:52
Wow, it took that long? I'm not surprised, but I always go with the expectation that I'll be there for quite a while. Was it busy? I've never been before midnight...two hours to GET the food is kinda crazy, though.
Jeffrey Whitaker (not verified) | Mon, 2011-04-11 18:59
Lol yea, I even was chatting with Nancy the owner. She said there was a party in the banquet room but there was only ten people in the banquet room. Also, there was only about 5 people in the whole place. Then a party of 4 came in and they were rubbing elbows with the owner..sounds like they go there often. And they got there chicken before we did. And we were there about an hour and a half before them. Hell no. I also posted on there facebook page about the disappointing experience that I had there. BUT...I am willing to give them another chance. But im gonna see if I can call in the order before we go. Any suggestions?

I hope people understand that you are getting fresh food when you eat Come and Get it Chicken and Waffles! Your food is not sitting under some hot lamp. If you want microwave food you are eating at the wrong place. Your food is cooked when ordered. What happen to people now and days? What happened to the good old days when people sat down and talked over a great meal? Why is everything such a rush? I'd rather wait 2 hours to eat and have a great memory at the end of my meal then pre-cooked, heated over a lamp 2 minute meal any day.
This place has the best chicken and waffles! The service is welcoming, the place feels like home.
So if anyone reads this please disregard any negative comments that have been written and try it out. Enjoy!

OK, finally went back to Come and Get It. Met with Nancy and she remembered me from before waiting almost 2 hrs before leaving without getting my food. She apologized, it took 30 minutes to get my chicken dinner which IS acceptable for fresh food. AND she even threw in free cup of peach cobbler which was good. Chicken a little salty but had lots of seasoning which I like. I would recommend this to my friends :))
