Pico de Gallo

What's it like?

My friend and I ventured out to have lunch today and stumbled upon Pico De Gallo on the corner of Chestnut / Shepherd. The food was good, the staff was engaging, and the overall experience was pleasant. I felt like they were fairly similar to a Qdoba or Chipotle, but with less variety, maybe?

Their signage is pretty unassuming (just black text on a white background) and I hope that this doesn't effect people finding them and recognizing it's a restaurant. They opened October 16th and yet at 12 noon we were the only ones in the establishment. (Granted today was marathon day, so maybe most people tried to stay clear of north Fresno?)

My roommate had a chicken burrito which was so huge she could only eat half, but she really liked it.  I had the tacos. Huge props to Pico de Gallo that every burrito, taco, bowl, and salad came with a vegetarian option. Unfortunately though, there wasn't anything special about their veggie option. :( It was just plain rice, pinto beans, lettuce, cheese, and salsa. I would have been more excited if there were some grilled veggies or a fancy sauce or an avocado or SOMETHING, instead of making me pay the same price for the same thing everyone else gets, just minus the meat. This is a problem I come across 90% of the time, so don't mind me! Of course, for you meat eaters out there, their selection of different shredded meats smelled so delicious that even I, the dreaded vegetarian, was forced to comment on how I wished I could have tried that!

There were no chips that came with the meal so I purchased a bag. The chips were fresh and they had 4 salsas to choose from. The spiciest was the tomatillo and it was good, even though I don't really like spicy stuff. Also, they have fountain Mtn Dew!! Major bonus!

Overall, the service was so excellent, I'd like to give it another try.

Well... I ate there today and was unimpressed overall. A lot like Chipotle or Qdoba, but not as good. I wanted peppers and onions instead of beans and they don't do that. Worst of all is that I wanted pico de gallo on my bowl... guess what?... no pico at an establishment named after it. They told me that tomato prices were too high for them to have it. Not cool. I will not be eating there again, and would suggest to anyone that they avoid it. Chipotle is worth the drive.
