Sequoia Brewery Tower

Reviewed by outlaweric on Feb 05, 2010

What's it like?

This is a revue of Sequoia Brewery(Tower) O.K., so we went there to hear our daughters voice coach sing in her band. We had a calamari appetizer, that was so overcooked and rubbery that you could'nt chew it. My daughter ordered the chicken strips that were o.k., I ordered the ruben sandwich and the bread was so soggy that I had to eat it with a Knife and fork.My wife ordered the club sandwich. It had Tri-tip on it that had a green tinge to it. Needless to say, we did'nt enjoy our meal. We would have told the waitress, if she ever came around to the table. My wife and I each had two beers. Our bill was $79.00. I just can't stop thinking that I could have gotten a hell of alot better meal for that kind of money. We will never eat there again!!!!

The food is an afterthought in a place like that... go for the beer!

The food may be an afterthought, but it's still a fair review of what was served. As for the beer, I find that the local breweries (well, there's Sequoia and Full Circle) serve a flat beer. I don't like flat beer.

I respectfully disagree. Food that is served and charged for cannot ever be an afterthought. If you're gonna put it out there, have some standards.

Thank you for the validation LOL. I regularly read how great the food at Sequoia Brewery is, and we've eaten there enough times to know it is not good and way overpriced. (Weird about the service, though; we've not had that problem there.) My husband and I frequent Sequoia in the Tower because we love the beer and live music. Since the food is overpriced we stick with appetizers: usually the sausage platter and sweet potato fries (can't go wrong; I am pretty sure they're frozen).

They have really gone downhill since they changed hands from Butterfield's. Prices almost doubled, a few of their brews suffered and the food just turned outright bad. But you do get alot of bad food for the high price. You might not like it, but you'll be full.

Why do people bitch about the food prices being so high? They aren't even that expensive compared to other places in Fresno. Ya no shit they almost doubled since Butterfields...it has been what like 10 years?? Haven't you heard of inflation? The minimum wage alone has gone up considerably in that time which means the restaurant has to charge more to cover the costs of labor, just like every other business in CA. It has average prices for a restaurant in Fresno so stop whining. Some of the brews are the same recipes as the Butterfields ones and they are brewed by the same brewmaster. If anything it has only gotten better since it changed. The ambiance is definitely better and it's a lot cleaner.

I think that a complaint about price in the context of a bad experience is valid. And I think that $79 for an unpleasant meal is expensive anywhere, no matter the history, or inflation, or labor costs (because when we're frustrated, those aren't things we think about).

I don't know that calling people out for "bitching" or "whining" will influence their willingness to open their wallets, though.

Actually they doubled the prices immediately after they took over the restaurant. I presume that their prices from there have kept pace with the economy from there.

Just a tiny bit sensitive about folks calling bad food overpriced aren't we? I'm quite sure that there would be far fewer complaints if the expensive food was actually enjoyable. Then it would just be pricey food instead of bad, pricey food.

First of all the prices never doubled that means a burger would have cost around $5 before, which it never did so I don't know what you're talking about, but yes they have gone up overtime. I am not trying to influence anyone to "pull out their wallets" I don't work at the place or any restaurant for that matter. I wouldn't call it "expensive food" it's average, but that's just my opinion. The first review is fair and understandable. The beer on a side note is pretty tasty...never experienced a flat beer there.
