Aqua Shi

What's it like?

This a very tasty Asian fusion restaurant. My husband and I were just there last Saturday and we had a great experience. Let me start off by saying that Aqua Shi has a cool atmosphere. It has a contemporary look with a bar and lounge area that is sophisticated. You can sit at the bar that has a long, glass counter top with an aquarium inside it. There is plenty of seating inside and out, with a large patio. Typically when my husband and I sit at the bar when we have sushi so that we can interact with the sushi chefs, but the booth table looked so comfortable and inviting. I sat on the side with the cushy bench with a large pillow behind me and my husband sat in a regular chair. His view was of these beautiful white, birch tree branches that were made into a wall display. My view was of the beautiful water wall. It was all very hip and modern, which can be hard to find in Fresno.

Okay, enough about the look of Aqua Shi, here's what I thought of the food. They have dozens of inventive and unique sushi rolls. I had a spicy hamachi (yellowtail) roll and a special Unagi(cooked eel)that was very good and different from anything I had before. My husband at the "Kick your AZZ" roll, which had spicy tuna, yellowtail, and several other items in it. All the fish we had seemed very fresh and nice color to it. What I especially appreciated was that the head sushi chef was Japanese and knew how to properly cut the fish. The waitress warned me that the portions were large, but I was still surprised when it arrived. The only thing about the sushi that was a bit strange is that it was so spicy. I know we both ordered spicy rolls, and we both really enjoy hot foods, but it almost overwhelmed the the fish. They also offered some typical sushi dishes and I enjoyed those as well.

If you don't like raw fish or don't care for seafood at all, chances are that they offer something you will like. My husband had a cooked crab and avocado tower salad that was delicious! It was light and had a delightful spicy, sweet flavor. They also serve several meat and poltry dishes.

I have to say that I enjoyed every bite of my food. I want to go back again so that I can try other rolls. It would be a great place to go with other friends and eat family style since the rolls are cut up into ten pieces. The way they "plate" the food made it all even more enticing and enjoyable.

It was a fairly pricy and the fish was a little spicy, but I would definitely visit again.
