I know there is another review posted for the Habit. But I really wanted to express myself and give it the stars I thought it deserved.
First of all, let me explain that my husband and I are carnivores. Okay, we're omnivores like most people, but we really really like Meat. And this is where the Habit failed us. Yes, most of the food tasted fresh. However, most of what we could taste was sauce and veggies. Let me give you a rundown of what we ate.
Hamburger: Thin patty of meat on a bun with a lot of lettuce, tom, and grilled onion. The grilled onions where nice, but all I could taste. The tomato was pink and flavorless. The lettuce fresh and crisp. The meat may as well not have been there. I tasted it on it's own and it tasted good. But, when I crave a burger – I crave a BURGER. Not a salad on bread with a hint of meat. In a previous review, Lukemundy compared it to In-N-Out. I think that's a good comparison.
Pastrami Sandwich on French Roll: Thin Slice of Pastrami with grilled onion, tom, and Swiss cheese. The tom here was the same as the hamburger. And, once again, the onions overpowered everything else. My husband is a fan of Pastrami – almost a connoisseur – and he was greatly disappointed. Like me, he tasted the meat on it's own and liked it. Nevertheless, the meager portion of pastrami meant he couldn't taste pastrami. Parts of his sandwich didn't even have meat on them.
French Fries: Boring. Not bad, just boring.
Chocolate Malted: I'm a huge fan of a good malted. Now, if this had been a chocolate shake, then I'd give it two thumbs up. Nice consistency, good chocolatyness. The malt, however, seemed like an afterthought. Sad.
Onion Rings: The saving grace of the meal. Tasty, very tasty. Crisp and perfect. Loved them.
It is counter service, so I can't say much on that. They were fast, friendly, and efficient.
The ambiance – about the same as the service. It works. The place was packed. After eating there, I don't know why.
Overall – I want to say that the price is right for what you get, but I can't. Paying even a couple of bucks for a Hamburger that I can't taste just won't do. Will we be going back? Maybe for onion rings after getting a burger or sandwich from Whole Foods. Most likely – no.
The best way for me to sum this up? I was craving a Burger with a capital B. I was so disappointed that I went home that same night and made homemade Burgers for dinner. A little more work, but – oh, so satisfying.

I agree, boring and not habit forming. I just ate at The Counter in Walnut Creek. Now that was a tasty burger.

Read your review. Well put. Decided to check out your blog and found the list of burger joints. I've thought about retrying Angelo's Drive In. I worked there 18 years ago. Back then, I was a wee twig of a thing and ate the burgers with pastrami on them to gain weight. The owners were always trying to fatten me up. Fun place. What a hoot!

Thanks for checking out the blog and twitter. Someone who actually worked at Angelo's, what an honor! A recent article in San Francisco Magazine about sandwiches gave me the idea about burger joints. Taqueria's in Fresno would be a good one to do next, but I need some help.

Yummm. I do love good lengua. I might be willing to help you out on that. I need to write a review on Don Pepe's. You may want to check them out. Very Tasty.
