Taqueria Don Pepe

Reviewed by tman104 on Mar 12, 2010

What's it like?

Had lunch with a friend today at Taqueria Don Pepe’s. I think the last time I was there was at least twenty years ago or so. This is an unassuming little taco joint that used to be a KFC. I arrived at the restaurant at 11:30 and by 11:45 the place was filling up fast. I had to move quickly to get a table! I ordered an Al Pastor Torta and my friend ordered a Carne Asada Quesadilla. Within a few short minutes our food was delivered to our table and man were we in for a nice treat! My torta was made with little chunks of pork (al pastor) with avocado, lettuce, a mild sauce, and cheese, on grilled torta bread. This torta was absolutely delicious! I was trying to eat slowly, but I couldn’t wait to take the next flavorful bite. This was truly an authentic Mexican sandwich on par with anything I tasted when I last visited Mexico City.

I have been going to Don Pepe's for nearly 15 years. I worked for Valley Children's when their admin offices were there on Gettysburg. I continue to order Chicken Super Burritos every time I'm there and I have never been disappointed.

THIS PLACE RULES.
I'll tell you right now, most people order either tacos or burritos when they eat here, or shrimp cocktails..
HIDDEN MENU GEM: SOPES.
Two fried, thick corn toritilla/bowl things filled with your choice of meat, and rice and beans.
I think it's like $5.99
